Boek I, Titel 1, hoofdstuk III is volledig gewijd aan definities. Het voordeel om alle definities samen te brengen is ontegensprekelijk duidelijkheid en coherentie doorheen de volledige Codex welzijn op het werk. In de oude, officieuze, Codex was het noodzakelijk om definities steeds te herhalen in elk afzonderlijk koninklijk besluit.
