Styreen, ook wel ethenylbenzeen, is een organische aromatische kleurloze vloeistof. Het product wordt vooral gebruikt als monomeer voor de productie van polymeren of als chemisch tussenproduct voor de productie van andere basischemicaliën. Omdat styreen een monomeer is dat spontaan kan polymeriseren onder invloed van licht of zuurstof, wordt een kleine hoeveelheid 4-tert-butylcatechol toegevoegd als stabilisator. Een ongecontroleerde polymerisatie reactie kan leiden tot een thermische runaway reactie.
